Alle ATI-Treiber, die neuer sind als Fglrx 8.42.3, erhalten fortan die Bezeichnungen und Versionsnummern der entsprechenden Windows-Pendants. Das hat zur Folge, dass z.B. die Treiberversion die unmittelbar nach 8.42.3 erschien, die Bezeichnung Catalyst 7.11 erhielt. Dies sorgte bei einigen Anwendern für Verwirrung. Installation von notwendigen Paketen
Vor der eigentlichen Installation muss das System vorbereitet werden, sprich die für die Grafikkartentreiber notwendigen Pakete müssen installiert sein. Dies kann zum Beispiel recht komfortabel mit YaST2, Smart, oder APT geschehen.

Außerdem sind die „make“ Befehle notwendig. Diese falls nicht vorhanden bitte auch nachinstallieren.
Achtung: Die Kernelversionen müssen übereinstimmen! |
Es kann das Übereinstimmen beispielsweise nachvollzogen werden, indem installierte Pakete, die den Begriff "kernel" enthalten aufgelistet werden. Eine Auflistung wird beispielsweise durch diesen Befehl erzielt: rpm -qa | grep kernel |
Nachdem jetzt alle Pakete vorbereitet sind, bitte nochmals mittels eines Onlineupdates überprüfen, ob alle Pakete auch aktualisiert wurden. Anschließend den ganzen Rechner bitte einmal neu starten.
