Zitat: PuTTY is a free implementation of Telnet and SSH for Win32 and Unix platforms, along with an xterm terminal emulator. It is written and maintained primarily by Simon Tatham.

Zitat: WinSCP is an open source SFTP (SSH File Transfer Protocol) and SCP (Secure CoPy) client for Windows using SSH (Secure SHell). Its main function is safe copying of files between a local and a remote computer. Beyond this basic function, WinSCP manages some other actions with files.

Zitat: What Is Cygwin?

  1. Cygwin is a Linux-like environment for Windows. It consists of two parts: A DLL (cygwin1.dll) which acts as a Linux API emulation layer providing substantial Linux API functionality.
  2. A collection of tools, which provide Linux look and feel.

The Cygwin DLL works with all non-beta, non "release candidate", ix86 32 bit versions of Windows since Windows 95, with the exception of Windows CE.

What Isn't Cygwin?

  1. Cygwin is not a way to run native linux apps on Windows. You have to rebuild your application from source if you want to get it running on Windows.
  2. Cygwin is not a way to magically make native Windows apps aware of UNIX ® functionality, like signals, ptys, etc.

Again, you need to build your apps from source if you want to take advantage of Cygwin functionality.

Microsoft Services For Unix 3.5

Zitat: Windows Services for UNIX (SFU) 3.5 provides the tools and environment that IT professionals and developers need to integrate Windows with UNIX and Linux environments.

SFU Tool Warehouse

Zitat: We have assembled and updated a number of Open Source UNIX tools that have been ported to the Interix environment of Microsoft Windows Services for UNIX (SFU). The Tool Warehouse is a free repository of software contributed by Interop Systems staff and associates, Microsoft developers, and porting specialists from ISV and corporate migration teams.

X-Deep/32 X-Server

Zitat: What is X-Deep/32 ?

X-Deep/32 - is an X Window Server for Windows NT/2000/9X/ME/XP that can be used to connect to host systems running UNIX, LINUX, IBM AIX, HP-UX, Sun Solaris or any other operating system that supports X Windows System, in a LAN environment or from a home PC connecting to office LAN via a Virtual Private Network (VPN).

This release is based off X11R6.5.1 release of X Window System from The Open Group.

Zitat: VNC stands for Virtual Network Computing. It is remote control software which allows you to view and interact with one computer (the "server") using a simple program (the "viewer") on another computer anywhere on the Internet. The two computers don't even have to be the same type, so for example you can use VNC to view an office Linux machine on your Windows PC at home. VNC is freely and publicly available and is in widespread active use by millions throughout industry, academia and privately.
